The History of Peterson Motorsports..

In December 2001, the idea of stock car racing became a reality, with the purchase of a street stock that met the rules of Varney Motor Speedway. We chose Varney for several reasons. Mainly for the extras that are done at the track, especially the kids club, and 50/50 draw. A great way for the young and old to receive a little extra for coming to watch their favourite racers battle it out on Saturday nights.

The car we race is a 1980 camaro, affectionately known as "Fluffy". We still run the same car today, although it has gone through a few changes to meet the rules. Especially when we went to Super Street Stock in 2003.

The 2002 racing season in the Street Stocks was our first season of coming from the bleachers to the center of the action. We quickly found out that racing is a lot harder than it looks. Although we had our mishaps, we still found our way to victory lane, winning a few heat races, and a feature. We also finished in the top 10 in points, and won Rookie of the Year honours.

2003 was our toughest year so far. A last minute decision to race Super Street Stock after the season had already started taught us a lot about car handling. And how much it takes to run up front. Although we only won 1 heat race, we took what we learned into the 2004 season.

2004 started off with struggling to find the handling, and trying to maximize the rules. We got it all together for the last half of the season, and won 6 heats and 1 feature, resulting in 6th place in points.

2005 started out with 2 feature wins in a row, until the mid-season there was only one feature that I did not finish in the top three. The mid-season championship is one race we wish we could take back. A little bad luck cost us the Championship. Although the rest of the season proved to be just as exciting as the first half. Claiming more heats and features with a season total of 17 heat wins, and 8 feature wins. We also finished 2nd in the points championship.

2006 wa fl of ups and downs. Little did we know at the start of the season, it would be the last year in super street stock. Overall though, it was a positive season. We walked away with 8 heat wins and 3 feature wins. We finished 4th in the overall points.

In 2007 we moved up to the Limited Late Model division. We had a late start but it was a good learning season. We had 3 heat wins this season and finished 7th in points. We also travelled to Octoberfest @ Flamboro Speedway and the Autumn Colour Classics @ Peterborough Speedway. We exceeded our expectations and are looking forward to a great 2008 season!
